Our Farmhouse Story…
The Farmhouse…
While not the original home on the property, this house was built in 1903 by Ebenezer’s great nephew, Charles Brigham who farmed the land. The house was designed by Madison architects Claude and Stark. It boasts large picture windows, deep eaves, and a magnificent front porch with a breath-taking view to the south. We are excited to have this historic home fully restored and to be able to share it with you!
The Cave Discovery…
As the story goes… on August 4th 1939, Charles Brigham was sitting on his front porch and his son Charles Brigham II ran up the hill to say they had discovered a cave during the building of the highway.
The Land…
Brigham Farmhouse rests on 75+ acres in the Driftless Area of Southwest Wisconsin. The original property, which includes The Cave of the Mounds (across the street) and Brigham County Park, was one of the earliest farms in Dane County, owned by pioneer settler, Ebenezer Brigham. He originally established the land as a mining operation in 1828 and later served in the Wisconsin territorial legislature.
A new County Park…
Rose Anna Brigham donated the northern portion of the farm in 1955 to Dane County in memory of her husband Charles and his great Uncle Ebenezer Brigham. The park has amazing views looking north across the Driftless region and one can spot the Baraboo Bluffs on a clear day. There are campgrounds and a picnic area to enjoy. You can also access the park from a path extension running north of the Military Ridge Trail, which runs right along the east side of the property.
